CERN 的伽马工厂——由光构成的新型研究工具

摘要

我们探讨了在 CERN 加速器复合体中产生并存储高度相对论性的高电离原子束,并利用激光激发其原子自由度以产生高能光子束,从而创建新型研究工具的可能性。此类光子束的强度将比现有运行光源在特别令人关注的 0.1–400 MeV 伽马射线能域中所提供的强度高出数个数量级。在该能量范围内,高强度光子束可用于产生极化电子、极化正电子、极化缪子、中微子、中子及放射性离子的次级束流。基于上述初级与次级束流的伽马工厂科学计划,可在基础与应用物理的广泛领域中开辟新的研究机遇。
