摘要
基础中子物理结合精密测量与理论,探测短程粒子物理,其触及范围远超 LHC 所探测的最高能标。美国正开展重大工作,将以数量级更高的灵敏度探测 BSM CP 破坏,提供关于 Cabibbo 异常的新数据,更精密测量中子寿命与衰变,并探索强子宇称破坏。自上次长期规划以来,美国基础中子物理界取得了世界领先成果,包括 UCN 对中子寿命的最精密测量、UCNA 关于 beta 不对称性的最终结果,以及来自 FNPB(基础中子物理束线)的 NPDGamma 与 n-He 运行的强子宇称破坏新结果、对辐射中子衰变模式与 n-He 的精密测量。通过开发 BL3、Nab、LANL nEDM 和 nEDM@SNS 等新重大影响实验,确保了美国的领导地位与发现潜力。理论方面,过去几年取得了来自 QCD 项的中子 EDM 结果,beta 衰变内辐射修正不确定性减半(影响 CKM 幺正性),以及针对中重核核结构的 {\it ab initio} 计算进展,最终可改善核与核子 EDM 间的联系。为维持这一激动人心的计划,利用既往投资并开拓新思路、在美国新领域建立领导地位,基础中子物理界已确定若干优先事项与机遇,涵盖正在制定的上次长期规划(LRP)时间框架。本白皮书详述这些优先事项。
