首次X射线偏振测量确认LMC X-3的低黑洞自旋

摘要

X射线偏振是探测黑洞周围吸积物质几何结构的有力工具,可独立测量黑洞自旋以及吸积盘最内层的取向。我们对位于大麦哲伦云中的X射线双星系统LMC X-3进行了X射线能谱-偏振分析,该系统宿主一颗恒星级黑洞,自发现以来已知处于持续吸积状态。我们报道了利用成像X射线偏振探测器(Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer)在LMC X-3中首次探测到X射线偏振,并发现其在2-8 keV能段内的平均偏振度为3.2% ± 0.6%,偏振角恒定于-42° ± 6°。利用NICER、NuSTAR和Neil Gehrels Swift天文台的伴随光谱观测,我们通过X射线连续谱方法确认了先前测得的黑洞自旋约0.2。仅从偏振分析出发,我们得到了与低黑洞自旋一致的结果,在90%置信水平下自旋上限 a < 0.7。数据暗示偏振度随能量略有增加,类似于其他处于软态的黑洞X射线双星,但统计显著性较低。
