液氩中亚MeV粒子切伦科夫辐射的首次逐事例识别

摘要
本快报报告了Coherent CAPTAIN-Mills (CCM)实验在高闪烁光产额的液氩(LAr)探测器中,对亚MeV电子产生的切伦科夫光进行了逐事例观测。CCM200探测器位于洛斯阿拉莫斯国家实验室,其7吨(有效体积)的液氩由200个8英寸光电倍增管(PMT)进行探测,其中80%涂有波长位移材料,其余20%未涂覆。在事件的瞬发时间区域(定义为相对于事件起始时间的 ns),未涂覆的PMT主要对可见切伦科夫光子敏感。利用Na源产生的伽马射线产生亚MeV电子,我们以的置信度分离出瞬发切伦科夫光,并开发了一种选择方法以获得低本底电磁样本。这是在高产额闪烁体探测器中首次对亚MeV电子产生的切伦科夫光子进行逐事例观测,代表了低能粒子探测器发展的一个里程碑。
