在宇宙诞生后不足 6 亿年内,探寻巨型/亮星系的出现与普遍性,是天文学的关键课题。詹姆斯·韦伯太空望远镜(JWST)在识别大量亮星系方面取得了显著进展,暗示了异常高效的星系组装过程。然而,驱动这些星系快速增长的物理机制仍不明朗。为此,毫米波和亚毫米波光谱观测红移后的远红外谱线,尤其是 [O III] 88 微米和 [C II] 158 微米线,提供了关键路径。为此,我们研制了一套双极化侧带分离型 superconductor-insulator-superconductor(SIS)混合器接收器,专为大型毫米望远镜(LMT)研制,其位于墨西哥。借鉴 ALMA 宽带灵敏度升级(WSU)技术,FINER 覆盖 120-360 GHz 频段,提供每极化每侧带 3-21 GHz 的瞬时中频(IF),随后由 10.24 GHz 宽的数字光谱仪进行处理。LMT 相当于 ALMA 的 40% 光收集面积,大气传输性能相似,而 FINER 的带宽是 ALMA 的 5 倍,最终实现北半球空中首个无与伦比的光谱扫描能力,为探测遥远星系的细粒度光谱分辨率铺平了道路。
