中年脉冲星周围可能普遍存在扩展太电子伏特晕

摘要

在太电子伏特(TeV)能段,孤立脉冲星周围的扩展伽马射线辐射(也称为TeV晕)已在少数几颗中年脉冲星周围被发现。这些晕的延展范围显著大于其脉冲星风云,但远小于星际介质中的粒子扩散长度。TeV晕的起源尚不清楚。相关解释或诉诸于与脉冲星环境相关的局部效应,或归因于普遍的粒子输运行为。后一种情形预测TeV晕将是所有脉冲星的一种普遍现象。我们利用高海拔水切伦科夫(HAWC)天文台2321天的数据,搜寻了由射电和伽马射线设备证认的36颗孤立中年脉冲星周围的扩展伽马射线辐射。通过将TeV流量模型与仅含背景的假设进行叠加分析,我们在5.10σ5.10\,\sigma的显著性水平上识别出了类TeV晕的辐射。我们的结果表明,扩展的TeV伽马射线晕可能普遍存在于中年脉冲星周围。这揭示了脉冲星一个此前未知的特征,并为识别那些因磁层位形而在射电、X射线和GeV伽马射线波段不可见的脉冲星群体开辟了新窗口。
