通过比较射电亮紧凑 HII 区域的径向速度与其 HI 吸收轮廓，我们发现了围绕这些区域的 expanding neutral hydrogen 壳。这些壳通过在表示距离大于观察到径向速度的速度处吸收 HII 区域的射电连续辐射来呈现。我们认为，这些壳是位于扩张离子化区域外缘的冲击区。此外，我们发现了位于 Perseus 臂内导致紧凑 HII 区域光谱中出现深吸收线的速度反转证据，这由螺旋冲击引起。
