异构网络（het-nets）由传统宏蜂窝基站叠加 femtocells、picocells 和无线中继组成，通过使用户更靠近其接入点而获得的小区分裂增益，为蜂窝运营商提供了应对激增流量需求的能力。然而，这些接入点通常随机的且未经规划的位置会导致严重的近远问题，通常通过协调基站传输以最小化干扰来解决。为此，第三代合作伙伴计划长期演进升级版（3GPP-LTE 或 Rel-10）标准引入了时域小区间干扰协调（ICIC），以促进 het-net 叠加层的无缝部署。本文综述了 Rel-10 中时域 ICIC 涵盖物理层、网络层和回传方面的关键特征。
