利用质子沉降作为电磁离子回旋(EMIC)波代理的ELFIN电子沉降观测

摘要

电磁离子回旋(EMIC)波可驱动辐射带耗散,低地球轨道(LEO)卫星能够探测由此产生的电子与质子沉降。ELFIN(电子损失与场探测)立方星提供了绝佳机会,以比以往更高能量与俯仰角分辨率研究EMIC驱动电子沉降的性质。我们收集ELFIN观测中的EMIC驱动电子沉降事件,并利用POES(极轨环境卫星)在附近搜寻10s-100s keV质子沉降作为EMIC波活动的代理。电子沉降主要发生在局地径向尺度(0.3 L)上,跨越15-24 MLT与5-8 L壳层,在MeV能量处更强,向下至100-200 keV处更弱。此外,观测到的损失锥俯仰角分布与>250 keV处的准线性预测一致(损失锥随能量增高更充盈),而需额外机制来解释观测到的低能沉降。
