中红外波段的早型星系

摘要
我们正在利用Space Telescope计划，对早型星系在中红外波段的性质进行系统性研究。本文报告了对17个Virgo系早型星系的高信噪比Spitzer IRS光谱。样本中的13个对象(76%)显示出一个在10微米以上且具有显著宽带特征的特征，这一特征是空间扩展的，可能来自恒星。我们认为，这一特征(主要)来自于渐进巨星(AGB)星的周星际包裹层中的硅烟 emission。其余4个对象，即NGC 4486、NGC 4636、NGC 4550和NGC 4435，表现出各种活跃程度和类型的活动。
