超新星遗迹仙后座 A 是否或曾经作为 PeVatron 运行?

摘要

数十年来,超新星遗迹(SNRs)一直被认为是银河系宇宙线(CRs)的主要源。但 SNR 能否将 CR 质子加速到 PeV 能量从而主导直到拐折处的 CR 通量,目前正处于激烈的理论和现象学争论中。对 SNR 作为 CR PeVatron 能力的直接检验可由超高能(UHE;Eγ100E_\gamma \geq 100~TeV)γ\gamma 射线提供。在此背景下,历史 SNR 仙后座 A(Cas A)被认为是 UHE 观测最有希望的目标之一。本文展示了 LHAASO KM2A 探测器对 Cas A 及其邻近区域的观测。LHAASO KM2A 在 UHE 波段的非凡灵敏度,结合 Cas A 的年轻年龄,使我们能够推导出关于 Cas A 在爆炸后任何时期加速的 UHE 质子与原子核的能量预算的严格与模型无关的极限。该结果挑战了 Cas A 型 SNR 是银河系中 PeV CR 主要供给者的主流范式。
