短型伽玛射线暴GRB 050709的发现

摘要

伽玛射线暴(GRBs)分为两类:短硬型和长软型暴。后者已知具有X射线和光学尾声,发生在星形成星系的宇宙距离上,与巨型恒星爆炸相关联。相比之下,短型暴的尺度、能量尺度及其前体星体仍是谜团。本文报告发现一次短硬型暴,其精准定位导致后续观测识别出X射线尾声,并首次发现其光学尾声。进一步确认该暴的宿主星系为一颗在z=0.16的后类型星系,表明至少一些短硬型暴发生在星系外缘的宇宙距离上,可能源于致密双星的合并。
