磁约束等离子体经常受到伴随大输运事件的弛豫振荡的影响。托卡马克的高约束模式尤其如此,这些事件被称为边缘局域模(ELMs)。它们导致高约束的暂时破坏,并导致等离子体面向部件上的高功率负载。目前关于ELM产生的理论依赖于边缘电流和边缘压力梯度超过临界值的联合效应,这导致在垂直平面内局域化并沿场线延伸的中间模数()结构(细丝)。本文通过对单个I型ELM细丝携带的磁场扰动的三个分量进行详细的局域测量,表明这些细丝携带了相当大的电流。这些观测为理解ELM动力学提供了重要信息。
