3C 84 喷流中检测到康普顿散射

摘要
3C 84 是普罗斯星系团中最亮的星系,属于最近的强辐射性主动星系,几乎可被从低频射电到TeV γ射线检测到。我们报告了对3C 84进行的首次X射线偏振观测,使用的是Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer,观测时长2.2毫秒,恰逢其在γ射线中的一次flare。这是一笔最长的强辐射性主动星系观测,使我们能够实现前所未有的灵敏度,导致检测到X射线偏振程度为 (约3.2σ置信度),其X射线电矢量偏振角为 ,与射电喷流方向在天空中对齐。光学偏振观测显示喷流轴附近也存在快速变动。我们的结果强烈支持X射线由相对论电子的康普顿散射产生的模型——具体而言,是发生在超星际黑洞远离处的自旋-康普顿散射模型。
