摘要
利用哈勃太空望远镜的广泛监测方案，我们检测到一种在GRB 011121 afterglow相对于红色的中间时间flux超量。这种红色“浪峰”在约7200埃的波长处表现出光谱回转，这一现象可由位于γ射线burst事件同一时间发生的Type Ic超新星所描述。推导出的亮度约为亮度为1998bw这颗超新星的一半。这些结果提供了强有力的证据，证明持续性γ射线burst的大质量恒星来源。这些观测排除了数周到数月前发生γ射线burst事件的超新星爆发模型。最后，我们讨论了球对称核心坍缩超新星与γ射线burst之间的关系。
