当光度超过临界值(即爱丁顿极限)时,致密天体吸积物质会受到辐射压的抑制。超亮 X 射线源的发现表明,即使表观光度显著超过该极限,吸积仍可进行。表观高光度可能由外流对辐射的几何束流效应产生。决定束流放大倍数的外流半张角此前从未被稳健限定。利用成像 X 射线偏振探测器(IXPE),我们对银河系 X 射线双星 Cyg X-3 进行了 X 射线偏振测量。我们发现超过 20%、几乎与能量无关的线偏振,且偏振方向垂直于射电喷流方向。这些性质明确指示天鹅座 X-3 X 射线双星中存在准直外流,并将其半张角限定为 <15 度。因此,该源可用作研究超临界吸积态的实验室。这一发现凸显了 X 射线偏振测量在推动我们对吸积源理解方面的重要性。
