利用 HAWC 对 M31 伽马射线发射的约束

摘要

宇宙射线与恒星辐射和磁场一起,已知构成了银河系等星系能量密度的重要部分。当宇宙射线在星际介质中相互作用时,会产生伽马射线发射,这为宇宙射线的传播方式提供了重要指示。位于 785 kpc 之外的仙女座星系(M31)的伽马射线,为研究结构与演化与银河系极为相似的星系中的宇宙射线加速与扩散提供了独特机会。利用高空水切伦科夫天文台(HAWC)33 个月的数据,我们搜寻来自 M31 星系平面的 TeV 伽马射线。我们还通过搜寻星系核上方与下方的费米气泡状结构,调查 M31 中过去与现在的星系活动证据。未观测到显著的伽马射线发射,因此我们利用这一零结果计算了 M31 中能量大于 10 TeV 的宇宙射线能量密度的上限。所计算的上限约比由 Fermi LAT 结果外推得到的预期值高十倍。
