天体物理仪器与方法 2022-12-09 v2 地球与行星天体物理 种群与进化

摘要

寻找地球以外的生命是 NASA 天体生物学计划的总体目标,它为探索太阳系行星与系外行星环境的任务科学奠定了基础。然而,无论是在太阳系内还是更远的地方,探测地外生命都具有极大的挑战性,可能需要跨越学科与任务的多种测量和方法才能提出令人信服的主张。因此,生命探测不会是一个瞬时过程,也不太可能是明确无误的——但这却是一项高风险的科学成就,将引起公众的极大关注。当前与未来旨在探测过去与现存生命的研究努力和任务,可以通过一个共识框架来支持,以规划、评估和讨论生命探测主张(参见 Green et al., 2021)。这样的框架可以帮助提高生物特征探测与解释的稳健性,并改善与科学界和公众的沟通。为了响应这一需求,以及社区关于开发生物特征探测证据标准置信度尺度的呼吁(Green et al., 2021),2021 年 7 月 19 日至 22 日举行了一次社区组织的研讨会。会议采用完全虚拟(翻转课堂)形式设计。包括阅读材料、教学视频与活动在内的预备材料在研讨会前提供,使得研讨会日程可以完全致力于活跃的社区讨论与引导式写作环节。为了最大化全球互动,研讨会的讨论环节在三个不同时区(亚太、欧洲与美国)的工作时间举行,各小组组织者之间每天进行信息交接。
