摘要
对系外巨行星 HD 209458b 的高分辨率大气流动模拟显示，存在大尺度的时空可变性。这与简单且永久的昼夜(即热/冷)图景形成鲜明对比。该行星的全球循环特征为每个极拱成一圈的极涡旋，以及对应约3个宽广的纬向(东西向)喷流的带状结构。对于非常强的喷流，循环所引起的在移动的热区与冷区之间的温度差可达约1000 K，这表明大气的可变性可能在该行星的光谱和光度特征中被观察到。
