Sagittarius 矮星系的蓝色水平分支星

摘要
我们报告了发现的蓝色水平分支 (BHB) 派生于 Sagittarius 矮星系 (Sgr) 的人群。该序列在对约 50 万颗星的 (V, V-I) 色量-明度图 (CMD) 中清晰识别。BHB 形貌类似于 M~54 中相应序列，但由于 (i) 它在星团主体之外检测到，最远可达超过 5 个潮汐半径；(ii) BHB 星遵循 Sgr 其他恒星 Population 的径向分布，故可明确其与 Sgr 的关联。这一发现最终证明 Sgr 星系拥有相当显著的 (~10%) 老且金属贫的恒星 Population ([Fe/H]\ltsima -1.3; age \gtsima 10 Gyr)，这类似于其最年老星团 (M~54, Ter~8)。我们还指出，此处发现的 Sgr BHB 序列是与 Newberg 等 (2002) 在 Sgr Stream 中观察到的类似特征对应的星系，后者距离星系中心超过 80°。
