XMM-Newton first-light 图像揭示了显示重度吸收幂律谱的 X 射线点源。谱指数和最亮源的可能无线电对应物的鉴定 suggest 银河系星际气体穿透的 AGN。从 X 射线谱中推导的柱密度结合 HI 测量值将允许对 LMC 中的 HI 到 H_2 比值作出结论，并与银河平原的相应值进行比较。
