伽马射线暴余辉深处的甚高能成分

伽马射线暴(GRBs)是短暂的伽马射线闪现,被认为是宇宙中最具能量的爆发现象。GRBs 的辐射包括短暂(通常数十秒)而明亮的瞬时辐射,随后是长得多的余辉阶段。在余辉阶段,由抛射物质与暴周介质相互作用产生的激波外流减速,并观测到亮度逐渐下降。GRBs 通常通过其能量在千电子伏至兆电子伏范围内的伽马射线发射大部分能量,但空间仪器已探测到少数能量达数十吉电子伏的光子。然而,此类高能(高于 1 吉电子伏)光子的起源以及甚高能(高于 100 吉电子伏)辐射的存在一直难以捉摸。本文报道在明亮的 GRB 180720B 余辉深处——即瞬时辐射阶段结束十小时后,当时 X 射线流量已衰减四个数量级——观测到的甚高能辐射。对于观测到的辐射有两种可能的解释:逆康普顿辐射与超相对论电子的同步辐射。我们的观测表明,X 射线与伽马射线能段的能量通量及其光子指数在整个余辉期间彼此保持可比。这一发现对两种辐射机制下的 GRB 环境施加了明确的约束,其中逆康普顿解释缓解了晚期观测辐射对粒子能量的要求。该探测的晚期时间对未来最高能段 GRB 的观测具有影响。
