VERITAS/Breakthrough Listen 对光学技术特征信号的搜寻

突破聆听(Breakthrough Listen)计划正在使用全球多台望远镜执行一项搜寻“技术特征信号”(technosignatures)的项目:即来自太阳系外、人造的地外发射器。VERITAS 合作组于 2018 年加入该计划,并提供搜寻一种特定技术特征信号的能力:可在星际距离上探测到的持续数纳秒的光学脉冲。我们在此报告 2019 和 2020 年对突破聆听目标开展的专用 VERITAS 观测以及自 2012 年收集的 VERITAS 档案数据的分析与结果。我们对 136 个目标的 30 小时专用观测和 140 个目标的 249 次档案观测进行了分析,未发现任何与技术特征信号一致的信号。结果用于对承载发射文明恒星的比例给出限制。我们还讨论了观测的最小脉冲灵敏度,并展示了 VERITAS 对 CALIOP 的观测:CALIPSO 卫星上搭载的星基脉冲激光。利用为技术特征信号搜寻开发的分析技术,VERITAS 对这些脉冲的探测可检验我们的分析效率,并作为一项重要的原理验证。
