恒星掩星是一项强有力的技术,可测定掩星天体的若干物理参数。其结果取决于测光精度、时间分辨率以及所获弦数。空间望远镜不受大气闪烁影响,可达到高测光精度。我们利用ESA的CHEOPS空间望远镜观测了跨海王星天体(50000)Quaoar的恒星掩星。我们将所获弦与该天体以往的掩星结果进行比较,并以亚毫角秒精度确定其天体测量位置。同时,我们给出了该掩星体存在全球性甲烷大气的上限。我们预测并观测了Quaoar的恒星掩星,使用的是CHEOPS空间望远镜。我们从该数据集测量了掩星光变曲线,并确定了恒星在掩星体后方消失与重现的时刻。此外,一台位于澳大利亚的地面望远镜被用于约束Quaoar的轮廓。结合先前工作的结果,这些测量使我们能获得Quaoar在掩星时刻的精确位置。我们展示了利用绕地球运行的空间望远镜对跨海王星天体(TNO)进行首次恒星掩星所得结果。该次掩星为2020年6月11日观测到的Quaoar掩星。我们利用CHEOPS光变曲线得出全球性甲烷大气探测的表面压力上限为85 nbar。同时,将该观测与一次地面观测结合,我们拟合Quaoar的轮廓,以低于1.0 mas的不确定度确定其天体测量位置。该观测属首创,应被视为利用绕地球运行的空间望远镜进行跨海王星天体恒星掩星观测的概念验证。此外,它对詹姆斯·韦伯空间望远镜也显示出重要前景。
