高光度星系团核心中由冷却流诱发的剧烈星暴

在某些星系团的核心,热的团内等离子体密度极高,以至于应在星系团寿命期内发生辐射冷却,导致气体持续向团中心沉降形成“冷却流”,然而尚未观测到此类冷却流。针对这些“冷核”星系团观测到的低恒星形成率和低冷气体质量,表明必须有天体物理反馈抵消大部分冷却,以防止失控冷却流的形成。在此,我们报告了对红移 z = 0.596 处的星系团 SPT-CLJ2344-4243 的 X 射线、光学和红外观测结果。这些观测揭示了一个极其明亮的星系团(L_2-10 keV = 8.2 x 10^45 erg/s),其宿主具有极强的冷却流(dM/dt = 3820 +/- 530 Msun/yr)。此外,该星系团的中心星系似乎正经历剧烈的星暴(740 +/- 160 Msun/yr),这表明在邻近冷核星系团中阻止失控冷却的反馈源在 SPT-CLJ2344-4243 中可能尚未完全建立。如此高的恒星形成率意味着,该星系团中心星系中相当大比例的恒星可能是通过吸积团内介质形成的,而非当前认为的中心星系完全通过并合组装而成的图景。
