在一次偶然的 BeppoSAX Wide Field Camera 暴露中，观察到来自低质量 X 射线二元组 Serpens X-1 的一次非常持久的类型 I X 射线暴。该暴现象持续约 4 小时，具有指数衰减形式的衰减时间为 69±2 分钟（2-28 keV）。其孔辐射峰值亮度为 (1.6±0.2)×10^{38} erg/s，能量为 (7.3±1.4)×10^{41} erg。首个“正常”类型 I 暴在超暴之后 34 天才被观察到。这与最近关于重元素海洋中不稳定碳燃烧的最新预测大体一致。
