Totaro's Question for Adjoint Groups of Types A_{1} and A_{2n}

Algebraic Geometry 2017-01-13 v1

Abstract

Let GG be a smooth connected linear algebraic group over a field kk, and let XX be a GG-torsor. Totaro asked: if XX admits a zero-cycle of degree d1d \geq 1, then does XX have a closed \'etale point of degree dividing dd? We give an affirmative answer for absolutely simple classical adjoint groups of types A1A_{1} and A2nA_{2n} over fields of characteristic 2\neq 2.
