Abstract
We prove that for every reductive algebraic group with centre of positive dimension and every integer there is a smooth and projective variety and an algebraic -torsor such that the classifying map induces an isomorphism in cohomology in degrees . This is then applied to show that if is a connected non-special group there is a -torsor for which we do not have in the (completion of the) Grothendieck ring of varieties.
