Abstract

Let GG be a finite 2-group and KK be a field satisfying that (i) \fncharK2\fn{char}K\ne 2, and (ii) aK\sqrt{a}\in K for any aKa\in K. If GG acts on the rational function field K(x,y,z)K(x,y,z) by monomial KK-automorphisms, then the fixed field K(x,y,z)GK(x,y,z)^G is rational (= purely transcendental) over KK. Applications of this theorem will be given.
