Coordinate deletion of zeroes

Abstract

For a family A{0,,k}nA\subseteq\left\{ 0,\dots,k\right\} ^{n}, define the δ\delta-shadow of AA to be the set obtained from AA by removing from any of its vectors one coordinate that equals zero. Given the size of AA, how should we choose AA to minimise its δ\delta-shadow? Our aim in this paper is to show that, for any rr, the family of all sequences with at most rr zeros has minimal δ\delta-shadow. We actually give the exact best AA for every size.
