Weak extent, submetrizability and diagonal degrees

General Topology 2011-12-06 v1

Abstract

We show that if XX has a zero-set diagonal and X2X^2 has countable weak extent, then XX is submetrizable. This generalizes earlier results from Martin and Buzyakova. Furthermore we show that if XX has a regular GδG_\delta-diagonal and X2X^2 has countable weak extent, then XX condenses onto a second countable Hausdorff space. We also prove several cardinality bounds involving various types of diagonal degree.
