Refinement rings, localization and diagonal reduction of matrices

Abstract

In this paper we prove that if RR is a commutative refinement ring and MM, NN are two RR-modules then, MNM\cong N if and only if for every maximal ideal mm of RR, MmNmM_m\cong N_m. We prove if RR is a refinement ring, then every regular matrix over RJ(R)\frac{R}{J(R)} admits a diagonal reduction iff every regular matrix over RR admits a diagonal reduction.
