A Classification of Regressive Transformation Semigroups on Chains

Abstract

For each subchain XX' of a chain XX, let TRE(X,X)T_{RE}(X, X') denote the semigroup under composition of all full regressive transformations, α:XX\alpha:X\rightarrow X' satisfying xαxx\alpha\leq x for all xXx\in X. Necessary and sufficient conditions for TRE(X,X)T_{RE}(X,X') and TRE(Y,Y)T_{RE}(Y,Y') to be isomorphic are given. This isomorphism theorem is applied to classify the semigroup of regressive transformations TRE(X,X)T_{RE}(X,X') where XX are familiar subchains of R\R, the chain of real numbers.
