We study magnetized orbifold models. We assume the localized Fayet-Iliopoulos terms and the corresponding gauge background. Such terms lead to strong localization of zero-mode wavefunc- tions. In this setup, we compute quark mass matrices.

The U(1) flavor symmetry explains the large mixing of neutrinos while it leads to the unique texture for the quark mass matrices. It is remarked that U(1) symmetric mass matrices have the phenomenological defects. In the quark sector, the…

We discuss how to calculate Yukawa couplings in string-derived orbifold GUTs. As an application we investigate the quark mass hierarchies in these models. An interplay of different mechanisms derived from string theory leads to an…

It is pointed out that in a seesaw quark mass matrix model which yields a singular enhancement of the top-quark mass, the right-handed fermion-mixing matrix U_R^u for the up-quark sector has a peculiar structure in contrast to the…

Under the assumption of symmetric four zero texture for fermion mass matrices in SO(10) model, the neutrino Dirc mass matrix is derived from the up-quark mass matrix. By adjusting two scales of the Majorana mass sector, we can derive…

Using anomalous U(1) symmetry the quark mass texture is determined uniquely. We analyze squark mass spectrum based on the above mass matrices and discuss the possibility to solve the problems of FCNC and CP caused by complex phases of soft…

An approach is suggested for modeling quark and lepton masses and mixing in the context of grand unified theories that explains the curious fact that m_u ~ m_d even though m_t >> m_b. The structure of the quark mass matrices is such as to…

We present a class of Ansatze for the up and down quark mass matrices which leads approximately to: |V_{us}| \sim \sqrt{m_d / m_s}, |V_{cb}| \sim m_s / m_b, and |V_{ub} / V_{cb}| \sim \sqrt{m_u / m_c}. Sizes of the Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix…
