Vacuum Misalignment in High Energy Collisions

High Energy Physics - Phenomenology 2009-12-30 v2 Nuclear Theory

Abstract

We study a recent proposal to observe the disoriented chiral condensate in high energy collisions. In order to produce a large fluctuation in pion probability distribution, a large size of the correlated region is essential. We study the role of the intrinsic symmetry breaking and suggest that a negative (mass)^2 of mesons arising from a misaligned vacuum may be a candidate for such a mechanism. We further point out a possibility to observe unsuppressed strong CPCP violation in the disoriented vacuum phase.
