Trees with few leaves in tournaments

Abstract

We prove that there exists C>0C>0 such that any (n+Ck)(n+Ck)-vertex tournament contains a copy of every nn-vertex oriented tree with kk leaves, improving the previously best known bound of n+O(k2)n+O(k^2) vertices to give a result tight up to the value of CC. Furthermore, we show that, for each kk, there exists n0n_0, such that, whenever nn0n\geqslant n_0, any (n+k2)(n+k-2)-vertex tournament contains a copy of every nn-vertex oriented tree with at most kk leaves, confirming a conjecture of Dross and Havet.
