The regularity of edge rings and matching numbers

Abstract

Let K[G]K[G] denote the edge ring of a finite connected simple graph GG on [d][d] and \mat(G)\mat(G) the matching number of GG. It is shown that \reg(K[G])\mat(G)\reg(K[G]) \leq \mat(G) if GG is non-bipartite and K[G]K[G] is normal, and that \reg(K[G])\mat(G)1\reg(K[G]) \leq \mat(G) - 1 if GG is bipartite.
