Stability Theory for Nullity and Deficiency of Linear Relations

Abstract

Let A\mathcal A and B\mathcal B be two closed linear relation acting between two Banach spaces XX and YY and let λ\lambda be a complex number. We study the stability of the nullity and deficiency of A\mathcal A when it is perturbed by λB\lambda\mathcal B. In particular, we show the existence of a constant ρ>0\rho>0 for which both the nullity and deficiency of A\mathcal A remain stable under perturbation by λB\lambda\mathcal B for all λ\lambda inside the disk λ<ρ\vert \lambda\vert <\rho.
