Repetition Threshold for Binary Automatic Sequences

Combinatorics 2026-02-25 v3 Discrete Mathematics Formal Languages and Automata Theory

Abstract

The critical exponent of an infinite word x\bf x is the supremum, over all finite nonempty factors ff, of the exponent of ff. In this note we show that for all integers k2,k\geq 2, there is a binary infinite kk-automatic sequence with critical exponent 7/3\leq 7/3. The same conclusion holds for Fibonacci-automatic and Tribonacci-automatic sequences.
