Prill's problem

Algebraic Geometry 2025-02-21 v2

Abstract

We solve Prill's problem, originally posed by David Prill in the late 1970s and popularized in ACGH's "Geometry of Algebraic Curves." That is, for any curve YY of genus 22, we produce a finite \'etale degree 3636 connected cover f:XYf: X \to Y where, for every point yYy \in Y, f1(y)f^{-1}(y) moves in a pencil.
