On Long Range Percolation with Heavy Tails

Abstract

Consider independent long range percolation on Z2\mathbf{Z}^2, where horizontal and vertical edges of length nn are open with probability pnp_n. We show that if lim supnpn>0,\limsup_{n\to\infty}p_n>0, then there exists an integer NN such that PN(0)>0P_N(0\leftrightarrow \infty)>0, where PNP_N is the truncated measure obtained by taking pN,n=pnp_{N,n}=p_n for nNn \leq N and pN,n=0p_{N,n}=0 for all n>Nn> N.
