On a conjecture Mordell

Abstract

A conjecture of Mordell states that if pp is a prime and pp is congruent to 33 mod 44, then pp does not divide yy where (x,y)(x,y) is the fundamental solution to x2py2=1x^{2}-py^{2}=1. The conjecture has been verified for primes not exceeding 10710^{7}. In this article, we show that Mordell's conjecture holds for four conjecturally infinite families of primes.
