Neutron Diffraction Studies on Temperature Driven Crystallographic Anisotropy in FeVO4 Multiferroic: Evidence of Strong Magnetostructural Correlations

Materials Science 2019-09-04 v1

Abstract

We used temperature-dependent neutron diffraction measurements on FeVO4 to understand the temperature driven anisotropy and observed that the maximum change for a and b lattice parameters in conjunction with a large contraction in angle \beta\ as a function of temperature. The least changes are observed for the c lattice parameter and in \gamma\ angle. From these structural parameters, it can be said that, FeVO4 exhibits large structural anisotropy with lowering temperature. The large change in lattice parameters in magnetic phases i.e. below 22 K explains the strong magnetostructural coupling in FeVO4.
