Maximal covers of finite groups

Group Theory 2020-03-16 v1

Abstract

Let λ(G)\lambda(G) be the maximum number of subgroups in an irredundant covering of the finite group GG. We prove that if GG is a group with λ(G)6\lambda(G) \leqslant 6, then GG is supersolvable. We also describe the structure of the groups GG with λ(G)=6\lambda(G)=6. Moreover, we show that if GG is a group with λ(G)30\lambda(G) \leqslant 30, then GG is solvable.
