Local unitary periods and relative discrete series

Abstract

Let FF be a pp-adic field (p2p\neq 2), let EE be a quadratic Galois extension of FF, and let n2n \geq 2. We construct representations in the discrete spectrum of the pp-adic symmetric space H\GH \backslash G, where G=GL2n(E)G = \mathbf{GL}_{2n}(E) and H=UE/F(F)H = \mathbf{U}_{E/F}(F) is a quasi-split unitary group over FF.
