Abstract
I present the main aspects of open charm production in collisions in the context of the Lund String Fragmentation Model as implemented in the Monte Carlo program PYTHIA. The emphasis is on the transition from large to small strings and the dependence on model parameters. A modified version is presented and compared with experimental results both on asymmetries, single-charm spectra and correlations.
