Failure of the large-N expansion in a Bosonic Tensor Model

Abstract

We study the tensor model generalization of the quantum pp-spherical model in the large-NN limit. While the tensor model has the same large-NN expansion as the disordered quantum pp-spherical model, its ground state is superextensive, in contradiction with large-NN perturbation theory. Therefore, the large-NN expansion of this model catastrophically fails at arbitrarily large-NN, without any obvious signal in perturbation theory.
