Exit probability and first passage time of a lazy Pearson walker: Scaling behaviour

Statistical Mechanics 2016-08-01 v1

Abstract

The motion of a lazy Pearson walker is studied with different probability (pp) of jump in two and three dimensions. The probability of exit (PeP_e) from a zone of radius rer_e, is studied as a function of rer_e with different values of jump probability pp. The exit probability PeP_e is found to scale as Pepα=F(repβ){P_e}p^{\alpha}=F({r_e}p^{\beta}), which is obtained by method of data collapse. The first passage time (t1t_1) i.e., the time required for first exit from a zone is studied. The probability distribution (P(t1)P(t_1)) of first passage time was studied for different values of jump probability (pp). The probability distribution of first passage time was found to scale as P(t1)pγ=G(t1pδ){P(t_1)}p^{\gamma} = G({t_1}p^{\delta}). Where, FF and GG are two scaling functions and α\alpha, β\beta, γ\gamma and δ\delta are some exponents. In both the dimensions, it is found that, α=0\alpha = 0, β=1/2\beta=-1/2, γ=1\gamma=-1 and δ=1\delta=1.
