Distinction of some induced representations

Representation Theory 2009-10-21 v9

Abstract

Let K/FK/F be a quadratic extension of pp-adic fields, σ\sigma the nontrivial element of the Galois group of KK over FF, and π\pi a quasi-square-integrable representation of GL(n,K)GL(n,K). Denoting by π\pi^{\vee} the smooth contragredient of π\pi, and by πσ\pi^{\sigma} the representation πσ\pi\circ \sigma, we show that the representation of GL(2n,K)GL(2n, K) obtained by normalized parabolic induction of the representation ππσ\pi^\vee \otimes \pi^\sigma is distinguished with respect to GL(2n,F)GL(2n,F). This is a step towards the classification of distinguished generic representations of general linear groups over pp-adic fields.
