Detection of Illegal Kiln Activity During SMOG Period

Physics and Society 2023-01-19 v1 Atmospheric and Oceanic Physics

Abstract

Brick Kilns are known to be a leading cause of air pollution. The toxins and gaseous emissions from brick kilns leads to SMOG. It is a mixture of invisible toxic gases such as carbon monoxide (CO), ozone (O3_3), sulphur dioxide (SO2_2) and particulate matter like soot and carcinogens. We propose how low spatial resolution remote sensing data can be used to identify illegal industrial activity i.e. kiln operation particularly during winter SMOG period through heat signature values and the concentration of gases like CO, NO2_2, SO2_2 and O3_3 in the atmosphere.
